Maria Miller, Executive DIrector

Maria Miller is a Faculty Emeritus at Palomar College in the Behavioral Sciences Dept. She was a full-time educator for 35 years serving in various leadership positions, retiring in 2013.  She holds two Masters degrees and is licensed as a Marriage and Family. She has extensive experience working with non-profit organizations.

Maria has been involved with Toys for Thailand since 2005. She served as Co-Director of IHC-Toys for Thailand from 2007-2011 and Executive Director of Toys for Thailand, Inc. since 2012.

Sasha Bilar, Director of Thailand Operations

Sasha Bilar has a unique view into the mechanics of Thai political systems. Her father was appointed to the team that drafted Thailand’s Constitution. Sasha earned a degree in Political Science and joined a Bangkok Media Firm to produce documentary and variety shows for broadcast TV. Upon emigrating from Thailand to the United States, Sasha completed a Master’s Degree in Art & Design at California State University Fullerton. She is President and CEO of Spectrum ITC group. Sasha has guided the firm into Global Technology Consulting. Fluent in Thai and English, Sasha has worked as a volunteer translator helping the office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) with UNICEF and Childline Thailand. She founded the Toys for Thailand project after the December 2004 Asian Tsunami, and served as Co-Director of IHC-Toys for Thailand from 2007-2011.

Lynda Halttunen, Treasurer

Lynda Halttunen served as Dean of Counseling Services at Palomar College for the past 28 years, managing a staff of over 100 employees and a multi-million dollar budget. Lynda holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Cornell University. Lynda assisted with fundraising activities for Toys for Thailand for several years, visiting Thailand in 2008. Lynda was a founding board member of San Diego Hospice. She Directed the Family Planning Clinic at the San Diego Urban League and was the Executive Director of East County Community Health Services.

Denise Plante, Secretary

Denise Plante is a tenured counselor at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California. She has been a full-time counselor for over thirty years, and has held positions at several colleges and universities. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English, a masters degree in counseling, and a professional certificate in career counseling. She is a nationally certified counselor, career counselor, and distance counselor. Serving as a Toys for Thailand volunteer on several humanitarian trips to Thailand, Denise has also assisted with fundraising activities.

John Bilar

John Bilar is the Vice President of, Spectrum ITC Group in Oceanside, California. In the commercial sector, John has sold and managed projects that provided Integrated AV Systems to Fortune 500 companies including Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Mercedes-Freightliner, and Callaway Golf. Over the past 25 years, John has traveled extensively in Thailand and speaks some Thai. John has served as a Toys for Thailand volunteer on several humanitarian trips to Thailand, providing technology support and assisting with the Small World Festival.

Paul Marshall is a senior systems engineer working for TechFlow, Inc. in San Diego. He is also a Captain (O-6) in the US Navy Reserve, serving with the Office of Naval Research (ONR) where he supports collaborative research projects between the US Navy and Thailand’s academic, government and military research organizations. In his Navy role, CAPT Marshall has made over 40 trips to Thailand in the past decade and has established a large number of professional relationships there. He has organized and led teams of Navy volunteers at three community relations projects assisting a Thai school and an orphanage. He has also led volunteer efforts with the Navy’s Project Handclasp organization and the Navy League in Thailand. Paul served as a Toys for Thailand volunteer at the Small World Mae Hong Son Festival (2011-2012) and has been involved in supporting other non-profit organizations in the San Diego area.

 

Jerome Roberts is a financial services professional with over 30 years experience in banking, entrepreneurship, business development, employee benefits and marketing.  Currently Jerome is realtor specializing in residential real estate in North County San Diego for the last 8 years.

 

Jerome has a special interest in international affairs and development.  Well-traveled, more than a dozen trips in the last 20 years to visit family, he has a special interest in Thailand.

 

 


Sean Cuadra is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in customer service, sales/marketing and event planning. He has worked with special events at Palomar College and for various corporations. Sean is the founder of his own business, The Gifted Horse, specializing in custom gift design and corporate branding. Sean helped raise 2 million for non-profit organizations in San Diego. He holds an undergraduate deree in Psychology from California State University, San Marcos.

Sean has been involved with Toys for Thailand since 2008, serving as event organizer at their annual fundraising events. Sean has a special interest in assisting at-risk and underrepresented groups. He enjoys spending time with his family and keeping up on the latest Apple technology.
