The Backstory:

Peter Chui, owner of the franchise Basil Box in Canada has a special tradition when it comes to store openings. “ I made a promise at a temple while traveling in South East Asia that for each new restaurant I open that I will donate to an organization that will benefit those in need living in Thailand. I found Toys for Thailand through a Google search.

About five years ago Peter convinced his wife to skip their honeymoon and go to Thailand for a research trip. They went shopping in local street markets and took several cooking classes. The experience revealed that nutritious yet tasty and portable food was possible.

Peter applied his research to create a scalable restaurant concept that allows guests to customize their boxes using only authentic flavors with fresh ingredients…and the Basil Box was born. Since the first Basil Box restaurant opened in 2015 there are now several franchises in Toronto and Ottawa with openings coming soon to Vancouver.
