More Than a Ball Game

For Tribal Children in Maehongson, Thailand, soccer is more than a ball game. It’s about learning to be a team player in the game of life.

With your support, Giacamo “Mo” Cappabianca is helping to raise funds so that Toys for Thailand can deliver soccer balls directly into the hands (and feet) of disadvantaged Tribal school children. These children live in extreme poverty and face obstacles that impede their right to have playtime. Playing football (soccer) at school engages boys and girls in a fun and exciting sport. Tribal children play football every chance the can often in bare feet or flip-flops with old worn balls.

Mo’s goal is to make sure Toys for Thailand delivers 50+ soccer balls to Tribal schools at the Small World Maehongson Festival (December 24, 2019). In addition, Mo is raising funds for athletic shoes to be provided for the neediest players.

Mo was football team captain for Ursuline High School and currently is the Football Manager for Youngstown State University where he is completing his bachelor’s degree (2020).

“I visited 10 Tribal schools in May 2019 playing soccer with the students at each school. The soccer field was the central focus of the schools. I saw how much the kids love to play the game even with flip flops with old battered balls. Soccer brings kids together for joyful play, laughter and the spirit of competition. It reminded me of how important it is to be a part of a team.”
